Summer 2- Week 2

This week has been another week of hard work and resilience for Year 6. Monday, the children published their newest piece of writing. Miss Vanderson, Mrs Barker and Mrs Matthewman’s groups worked on their ‘One story, many tellings’ letters. Somehow Miss Vanderson’s TV ended up ‘smashed’ and Year 6 had to write a letter to Mrs Hewitt-Best, their trusted adult at home and their best friend to explain what had happened. This fake scenario led to the children producing 3 very strong letters which showed a clear difference in formality and tone. Mrs Tweddle’s group produced an excellent piece of writing based on the short film ‘Little Freak’. They had to write an internal monologue to show the characters true feelings that they were hiding from their parent. We are really proud of how engrossed they were in their writing the past two weeks.

We have continued rehearsing the excellent production that is ‘Shakespeare Rocks’. The children have had advice on how to improve their acting, singing and dancing skills and they really have proven themselves. This week they have pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and really tried to put on a show that we cannot wait for you to see!

In Science we have moved onto our next topic which is light. The children had to identify light sources and those that are just reflective surfaces. Next week we will be looking at how we can see objects. In history, we began our newest topic, Crime and Punishment, where the children began to understand the punishments the Romans had for those that did not follow the ‘Twelve Tables’ (their own laws). We discussed whether the punishments were fair and what punishment they would give if they were the judge.

Congratulations to our pupils of the week!

In 2BV this week Shanaya N achieved pupil of the week for exceptional acting, singing and dancing in Shakespeare Rocks rehearsal.

In 2KT this week Iosif achieved pupil of the week for taking advice on board and significantly improving his acting.

Happy birthday to Riley this week, we hope you have a wonderful birthday! 🙂
