I cannot believe we are at the end of week 2 already! Please check with your child this evening that they are completing their 6 assignments on Reading Plus each week – this is an important personalised tool to support fluency, vocabulary and comprehension 🙂
In Maths, this week, we have continued our unit on Place Value, studying less than, greater than and equal to, rounding to 10, 100, 1000, 10 000, 100 000, 1 000 000 and negative numbers – it has been a busy week of recapping and gaining knowledge! In English, we began revisiting our knowledge of nouns. This link takes you to a song to remember all the different types of nouns studied: common, abstract, collective, partitive and abstract. Please ask your child about them by using the resource below:
We finished English recapping vowels and consonants to improve our spelling when applying the suffixes -ed and -ing.
In History, we studied how WWII began and identified the countries Hitler invaded leaving Britain alone. We also identified why Hitler invaded these countries and why Britain and France allowed this to happen. Our Reading lesson further increased our historical knowledge of WWII as we began to study evacuation and the emotions children faced as they began their journey from the city to the countryside on a train with their teachers. Every child in year 6 experienced the air raid siren and being sent to live with different families – as them about this experience…they were very articulate about their thoughts and feelings! We are finishing today with a another poem by Brian Bilston, Refugees. I wonder what your children think of this author – ask them tonight.
