What a lovely first week back with some lovely sunny spells of weather we have had 🙂
This week, the children have continued their studies of the Galapagos and Charles Darwin by learning about his assistant Syms Covington. We have discussed the levels of education, upbringing, age, levels of respect and formality between the two men. The children read extracts from ‘Darwin’s Dragons’ and saw a clip from a drama to further develop their knowledge of the two men. With this gained knowledge and understanding, they have written two diary entries to show the different characteristics of the two men on the same day. They have written, performed, edited and are now ready to begin publishing them next week. We are all extremely proud of their effort and enthusiasm towards this piece of writing so much so much so that our two Pupils of the Week are Layla.B and Leah for their incredible commitment to improve sentence structuring to engage the reader and demonstrate the traits of the two characters.
Midweek, we began our summer unit of Music learning with Mrs Collins. We studied musical notation, rhythm, dynamics and pulse using body percussion, musical instruments and vocal work. By the end of the session we were singing in a call and response format to sustain a consistent rhythm. We all really enjoyed the sessions and multiple children stood out for their effort, enthusiasm and knowledge – well done year 6!
In Forest School this week, we learned how to saw, drill and sand in the outdoor classroom and inside the classroom we used three pieces of string to plait the main part of our necklace ready for the medallion creation next session.
Finally, today we had our first run through of Shakespeare Rocks. Your children blew us away with their stage presence on Day 1. We cannot wait to develop their dramatic skills further, and look forward to you seeing the polished outcome on Monday 8th July.
Your child’s homework this half term is to learn their words, song lyrics and actions for the show.
