We had a very busy week in Nursery and we finished it off with our Animal Dressing Up Day!
Don’t they all look ‘ROAR’some! And thank you for helping us raise £27 for some new wooden nursery toys.

On Wednesday, the whole school celebrated National Numeracy Day. We always have maths stories and equipment out for the children to access in Nursery. We encourage counting, problem solving, patterns, shapes, space and measuring, and this week we also did orienteering! We followed the map around the school field and answered questions. Look at the fun we had! More photos to follow soon…

In PE, the afternoon children played Ball Tag and the morning children played Sharks and Fishes, which was a tricky game with lots to think about. The children were listening, taking part and trying their best! Well done everyone, Mrs Short and I were very proud this week! I’m also always amazed by how our Nursery children walk to the hall for PE. They know to be quiet, walk sensibly and not to disturb the children who are learning in their classrooms! How sensible and we’re only 3 and 4!
In Music, we sang Hey, Hey and danced the Cha Cha Slide! We have been learning about the way music makes us feel. Do you listen to different types of music at home?
In Phonics, the Caterpillars group (children staying in nursery in September) have been playing animal games and playing Silly Soup. The Butterflies group (children going into Reception) have started learnt the following sounds:

The skills we are encouraging are turn-taking and speaking with a clear voice so others can hear us. Your child’s voice is so important, the UN Children’s Rights, Article 12 is every child has the right to be listened to and taken seriously. This week we are working on speaking in a small group with a clear voice. This is our Oracy clear voice reminder…

Our story this week…
This week we have enjoyed sharing Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? We made up our own version using a teddy bear and our names!

Come and Read will continue after half term on Fridays! If you would like to share a story, please come at the beginning of the session, as we close the doors to do our Nursery register after 15 minutes. Morning session 8.30am. Afternoon session 12.15pm.

Nursery Visitors
We have some exciting visitors organised for after half term. Watch this space!
Transition
As we move into the last half term, we will be organising some activities to help your child with the transition into Reception. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Attendance: Pupil Absences
Thank you for letting the school office know if your child will be absent from Nursery. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children, this includes attendance in Nursery and Reception. Please contact the school office if your child will not be attending Nursery that day. If your child has not attended Nursery for three days without contact, school will be contacting you with a child welfare phone call.
Lateness
At the beginning of every Nursery session we do a daily OT session. This includes, finger strengthening exercises, dough and dance, dance and draw, and crossing the line activities. (For children to become physically balanced individuals they need to cross the “midline” or “centre line”, the line that runs down the middle of their bodies.) If your child was late this week, please try to practise some of these skills at home too. Lots of activities with pens, pencils, crayons and chalks will help too.
Uniform
We have lots of spare uniform in school with no names on. If you are missing any, please pop in to check and also please ensure all uniform has your child’s name on. Please return any borrowed uniform as soon as possible.
Water Bottles
Please label water bottles. Thank you for your support with our oral health programme by providing water in your child’s water bottle.
PE Days will stay the same next half term.
Morning Children – PE is on a Thursday. Afternoon Children – PE is on a Monday.

Happy Half Term! We hope you have a lovely week! Mrs Huggins
