Another busy week in Nursery this week! We have waited all week for a parcel to arrive and guess what.. they did! Five little caterpillars arrived for us to look after and watch them change! We’ll share some photos soon…
We continue to practise holding a pencil correctly and doing our daily finger strengthening exercises. Please practise this skill at home. We also practise our cutting skills regularly, please encourage your child to practise this skill safely.
Fingers on the bottom, thumb on the top, open and close to chop, chop, chop!
Look who came to see us in Nursery again… We had a lovely visit from PC Anabel on Friday. She let us sit in the police van and try on some uniforms. It was amazing!

In Maths, we practised subitising, where we say the number of objects they can see without counting. We say “Don’t count, say the amount.”

In PE, we continue to develop the fundamental movement skills to celebrate and share with you at our Sports Celebration. We practised balancing, ladders and running. Aren’t we busy!
In Music, we are learning to sing new songs including Bell Horses and Roly Poly. The children are becoming more confident when performing, thank you for sharing different genres of music with them and encouraging creativity. Perhaps we have some budding musicians in Nursery! Move over Ed Sheeran!
Phonics and Oracy
In Phonics, the Caterpillars group (children staying in nursery in September) have been clapping syllables, playing sound games and listening to a rhyming story. The Butterflies group (children going into Reception) have learnt the following sounds this week. We need to recognise them speedily…

Thank you again for practising oral blending at home, we can see they are really making progress with this! Try it while you are out and about, can they say what you see by blending the sounds to say the word.
The oracy skills we are working on this week were listening to the speaker and speaking clearly when it is our turn. To help at home, listen and encourage your child to speak clearly. If you think your child is struggling with communication or speech at home, please have a chat with us in school. We can help to support you or signpost you in the right direction.
Your child’s voice is so important, the UN Children’s Rights, Article 13 is Freedom of expression. Children have the right to think freely and share their thoughts, ideas, and information, provided it does not harm the rights of others. Our Oracy listening and clear voice reminders…

Our story this week…
This week we have enjoyed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, especially as we were expecting our package of caterpillars to arrive all week! Very exciting! Can your child count the different foods the caterpillar eats?

Have you noticed any butterflies in your garden recently?
Certificates

Well done to Cruze, who has enjoyed playing in Nursery this week. And well done to Grace and Isabelle, who shared their sporting achievements with us. We loved seeing your certificates! Grace for gymnastics and Isabelle for rollerskating! WOW! Amazing!
Birthdays
Happy Birthday to Lenny! We hope you had a great day celebrating!
Messages from School
This looks exciting for those who are free on Friday afternoon! And your child gets a free book! Here is the link to sign up… https://literacytrust.tfaforms.net/f/BearHunt

Thank you to the parents sharing what’s happening in our local area. It’s lovely to hear! If you know of any other local events suitable for 0-3 year olds, please let me know and I can share them with our Nursery parents. No need to book the one below.

Transition
This week, one of our Reception teachers, Mrs Prest shared a story with the afternoon children. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to spend some time with one of their new teachers.

Attendance: Pupil Absences
Thank you for letting the school office know if your child will be absent from Nursery. Holiday forms can also be collected from the office. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children, this includes attendance in Nursery and Reception. Please contact the school office if your child will not be attending Nursery that day. If your child has not attended Nursery for three days without contact, school will be contacting you with a child welfare phone call.
Lateness
At the beginning of every Nursery session we do a daily OT session. This includes, finger strengthening exercises, dough and dance, dance and draw, and crossing the line activities. (For children to become physically balanced they need to cross the “midline” or “centre line”, the line that runs down the middle of their bodies.) If your child was late this week, please try to practise some of these skills at home too. Lots of activities with pens, pencils, crayons and chalks will help too.
Uniform
We have lots of unclaimed uniform in school in the corridor. If you are missing any, please pop in to check and also please ensure all uniform has your child’s name on. Please return any borrowed uniform as soon as possible.
Water Bottles
Please label water bottles. Thank you for your support with our oral health programme by providing water in your child’s water bottle.
We hope you have a lovely weekend! Mrs Huggins
