Nursery 17.10.25

Our topic is… Me and My Family

What a busy week in nursery! We are developing lots of important skills and having fun too.

In phonics, we have been singing nursery rhymes and action songs.

In maths, we are using repetitive language through songs and rapping and we are beginning to look at pattern. We learnt our nursery rap called, ‘Big Big Big’ and a new song called ‘Hot Potato.’ It has a very catchy tune with funky actions! We were also building with different wooden and foam blocks and working out which ones will stack and which ones don’t. While we played, we used the vocabulary flat, straight, curved and point.

Skills we are also working on this week are listening to and following simple instructions. We had a social story about lining up calmly and giving each other space. Remember, when you line up, don’t be a space invader! 🙂

Story of the Week:

This week, we have enjoyed listening to the story ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. Baby Bear is off to the moon in his rocket. He meets a friendly owl and enjoys a tasty treat before heading home for his bath. We enjoyed retelling the story using our story bag. All we needed was a teddy, a box and a colander! Lots of fun!

Nursery Pupil of the Week

We are so proud of all our nursery children. This week, we would like to give our Pupil of the Week certificate to Maddie for being a nursery superstar! Well done!

News from Nursery:

Coats: Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat at nursery everyday. The weather is a bit unpredictable at the moment but we love going outdoors in all weather! Please also put your child’s name in all their uniform.

Speech and Language: The nursery team are focussing on supporting our children with speech and language development. Please see our ‘Parent Support’ page for more information or the notice board in the corridor for some top tips off the Speech and Language team. If you have any concerns about your child’s speech and language, contact your GP, health visitor or let us know and we can signpost you to support.

Toothbrushing: The children continue brushing their teeth in nursery as part of our daily routine. This week we have been talking about visiting the dentists and keeping our teeth clean.

Snack: We have milk and fruit everyday. During snack, we often talk about eating a balanced, nutritious diet. From September 2025, there are new requirements in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework regarding nutrition. Offering children a wide range of foods, textures and flavours can help increase the variety of foods children will eat. This can encourage healthier eating habits later in childhood. This is especially important during this time of early growth and development.

Nursery Attendance:

If your child is poorly or going to be absent from nursery, you can let us know or ring the office on 01642 816884. The new EYFS guidance emphasizes that regular, punctual attendance at nursery is crucial for a child’s learning, development, and well-being, as consistent attendance helps children settle and build strong relationships with staff and their peers.

Thank you for your support. We hope you have a good weekend! Mrs Huggins 🙂
