Summer 1 Week 5 – 10.5.24

In English this week, we have been continuing our planning and drafting of a report about the Galapagos Islands. Our focus for the week was trying to think more carefully about the audience. We wanted to make sure they had enough detail and information to really help them understand how amazing these lands are. We used a range of writing techniques to do this: parenthesis, to add clear definitions or extra information about the islands; relative clauses, which explain more about nouns; subordinating conjunctions, which allow us to add extra details and depth to each complex sentence.

Our maths work focussed on the topic of Geometry: shape, position and direction. We have learned the different parts of a circle and how they relate to one another, such as radius, diameter and circumference. We then began to look at coordinates and describing the position of something in all four quadrants – if you’d like more information, you can find it HERE.

In our Design Technology work, we began sewing our Charles Darwinesque sketch book covers. Using a running stitch, we began to add our initials to the main body of the cover. We have really improved our sewing technique and many of our stitches look very consistent.

We have also revised one or two key topics in ESPG, as well as looking at Reading test techniques and Maths strategies to help us with our SATs next week.

Pupils of the Week

Congratulations to Roman – who has really improved his concentration in maths and is now much better at using strategies and asking for help when needed.

Well done to Shia-Star – she has shown great resilience and confidence in all aspects of her learning this week.

Y6 SATs Breakfast – w/b Monday 13th May 2024

School will be providing the children in Year 6 with a free SATs breakfast every day next week (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu and Fri). Children will have a great choice of hot and cold food options and they can then spend some time relaxing with friends, prior to starting their tests.

Doors will be open from 8:00am and children should arrive no later than 8:15am.

We are so proud of all their efforts this year, and hope they have a relaxing and restful weekend!
