Spring Term, Week 1

This week the children began their new topic, their first of 2024. We began our week by taking a walk through the Polar Regions discovering about life on these frozen landscapes. The children have been fortunate to learn from David Attenborough as we have watch some clips from his Frozen Planet documentary. His language spoken and his facts shared have enabled the children to produce a description based on a walk through the Arctic. If you could access this documentary over the weekend with your child it will be valuable to their learning throughout this topic. Next week, we are furthering our knowledge and understand about polar bears; in particular, those living in the wild compared to those in captivity.

In Maths, we have explored the topic Ratio and Proportion. Please click on the link for a video to explain this learning. The children have studied the vocabulary involved and how to write this mathematically as a symbol when comparing how much of one item there is to another.

This week we have launched a Battle on TTRS between year 6 and year 5. Please remember to access daily to keep your multiplication and division facts fluent – Good luck! We will post the winner next week 🙂

Today, we had an amazing experience watching a pantomime by M&M Productions called Cinderella. All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Singing, dancing and joining in with the usual phrases: He went that way! It’s behind you! Oh no, he isn’t! It was lovely to see all the children engaged and participating in such a memorable experience to end their first week back 🙂

This week we have three birthdays in year 6: Eithan, Ajeet and Simar. All the children and staff would like to wish them a very happy 11th birthday and we hope you have a lovely weekend celebrating your special day.

2KT – Alfie.M was pupil of the week for his superb attitude to learning and effort to improve his understanding in all areas!

2DJ – Leah was pupil of the week for her great effort in class and joining in lots more!
