Class News – 21.4.23

A new half term has arrived and with it a new topic – The Victorians – this week your children have begun to learn some key historical facts and achievements during this period of time through a Read and Respond activity and Now, Press, Play. Whilst accessing Now, Press, Play, your child became a Victorian child and decided to travel to London to free their family from the workhouse, ask your child if they succeeded in their adventure.

In English this week, we have been playing Rock, Paper, Scissors!  It’s an animated film based on the game and we are using it as inspiration to write our own story.  You can see the film here.  We have been really focussing on using powerful language in order to describe the characters and settings, as well as adding some dialogue to the film.  We have really enjoyed using the techniques of other writers in order to help us with our descriptive sentences.

This week in Maths, we have deepened our knowledge and understanding of angles. All children should now be able to explain acute, right-angle, obtuse, straight, reflex and at a point angles – please ask your child to explain the differences in these angles.

In PE, we started learning another sport; golf, which some of us have played before.  We were working on our chipping technique and then played a game of finders keepers to assist with our putting skills.

In Science, we have thought about prior learning in year 4 linked to circuits and electricity. The children were able to remember some electrical components required to complete a circuit – great recall skills year 6! This week we have learned the scientific symbols required to draw a circuit, there were nine, please quiz your child this weekend to see if they can remember them all and teach you 🙂

Pupil of the Week

Aaron for his infectious enthusiasm towards writing this week and Mia for being a superb role model and a kind, supportive classmate – keep up the great work!
