Another fantastic week in writing with everyone. Their enthusiasm for this narrative has been amazing. We definitely have some authors in the making! We look forward to finishing them and reading them aloud for our peers to enjoy 🙂
In Maths, we completed our decimals unit and we have began a unit linking fractions, decimals and percentages. Please click the link to a video that explains our new unit with some example questions your child may face in SATs. We have had 10 superb Mathematicians of the Day this week, please ask your child who it has been and the reason they have achieved it.
In Science, we were able to experiment with electrical equipment to see if we could get bulbs to light and how our circuits and components can affect the brightness of the bulb. Here is an example of the circuits we were making. We really enjoyed this lesson with the children, their conversations showing their understanding and justification for when a circuit did or did not work were fantastic. The power of talk is key to increasing your children knowledge and understanding!
In History, we have studied where the Victorians are in our historical timeline. To do this we revisited our prior historical topics to order these significant periods in British history. From doing this, we were then able to discuss who Queen Victoria was and her impact during her reign. We identified some key inventions during this period of time and identified the problems they fixed for society. All children had a go at trying to persuade their peers to invest in one of the key inventions during this period: flushing toilet, first car or camera. Their pitches were superb, lots of hard-thinking was needed by the audience before they cast their vote. Ask your child to share their pitch with you – Dragons Den style! Finally, we studied the impact of the Industrial Revolution in Britain and compared life before and after for families, work, the land and the country.
