Nursery 15.5.26

This week we learnt about some animals that live in hot countries. We noticed differences and similarities and we talked about animals features. We made lots of observations and had lots of questions!

In Maths, we have been looking at animals patterns and creating our own patterns. Aren’t we busy!

The morning children had find doing activities such as, skipping, hop scotch, jumping in the hoops and bouncing and catch! They were listening and following instructions really well!

The afternoon children were in awe and wonder at the hailstones coming down on Thursday! They were bouncing outside and we were bouncing inside with excitement!

In Music, we have been changing the lyrics to one of our favourite songs, See-saw, spinning like windmills to our windmill song and chugging around nursery to our train song! We also listened to Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, we tried to imagine what the troll king might have looked like! To watch the orchestral version visit this BBC link below: It’s fantastic! Can they recognise the piece of music from a famous theme park? CBBC – Ten Pieces – In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg

In Phonics, the Caterpillars group (children staying in nursery in September) have been listening to beginning sounds of words and playing I Spy. The Butterflies group (children going into Reception) have started learning the letter sounds from our Read, Write, Inc phonics programme. We say the pure sounds. This week we have learnt the following:

The skill we are encouraging this week is showing good listening. We talk about good listening by looking at the speaker and taking turns in conversations. This is our Oracy good listening reminder…

Our story this week…

This week we have enjoyed sharing Handa’s Surprise. The animals pinch fruit from Handa’s basket as she walks to see her friend. She is surprised when her basket is full of tangerines instead! We want to try some of the different fruits, especially guava! We also watched Elmer! Can your child retell you the story?

Come and Read continues on Fridays! If you would like to share a story, please come at the beginning of the session, as we close the doors to do our Nursery register after 15 minutes. Morning session 8.30am. Afternoon session 12.15pm.

Pupil of the Week

Well Done to our Nursery Superstar this week, Nolan! We are really proud of the progress you are making at nursery. Thank you for being a super star!

Messages from School

DRESSING UP DAY! The last Friday of this half term, Friday 22nd May, is our Nursery dressing up day, with an animal theme! We are starting to raise money for some new wooden toys, so we would be grateful for a £1 donation that day. We will be doing lots of animal crafts, singing, dancing and playing animal games!

Attendance: Pupil Absences

Thank you for letting the school office know if your child will be absent from Nursery. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children, this includes attendance in Nursery and Reception. Please contact the school office if your child will not be attending Nursery that day. If your child has not attended Nursery for three days without contact, school will be contacting you with a child welfare phone call.

*All families are entitled to Early Help support. Middlesbrough Council’s Early Help service is called Stronger Families. We can signpost you to services if you need them. I’ll add information to our Parent Support Page.*

Lateness

At the beginning of every Nursery session we do a daily OT session. This includes, finger strengthening exercises, dough and dance, dance and draw, and crossing the line activities. (For children to become physically balanced individuals they need to cross the “midline” or “centre line”, the line that runs down the middle of their bodies.) If your child was late this week, please try to practise some of these skills at home too.

Water Bottles

Please label water bottles. Thank you for your support with our oral health programme by providing water in your child’s water bottle.

PE Days

Morning Children – PE is on a Thursday. Please ensure your child is wearing their PE kit and suitable shoes on this day, so they can join in safely.

Afternoon Children – PE is on a Monday. Please ensure your child is wearing their PE kit and suitable shoes on this day, so they can join in safely.

We hope you have a nice weekend! Mrs Huggins
