Nursery 12.6.26

Another busy week in Nursery this week! A big thank you to Cleveland Fire Brigade who visited our afternoon children this week to talk about keeping safe. The children had a fantastic time sitting in the fire engine, trying on uniforms and squirting the hose! They listened carefully and asked some thoughtful questions. Well done Nursery, we are very proud of you. The morning children also enjoyed taking a walk around school looking for signs that help us to keep safe.

We continue to practise holding a pencil correctly and doing our daily finger strengthening exercises. Please practise this skill at home.

In Maths, the children continue to notice patterns inside and outside. We are moving on to subitising, where we say the number of objects they can see without counting. We say “Don’t count, say the amount.” We will be playing games with dice and dominoes. Playing games with a dice at home will help with this skill. We like snakes and ladders. What games do you like playing at home?

In PE, we continue to develop the fundamental movement skills to celebrate and share with you at our Sports Celebration. We practised jumping and balancing. Aren’t we busy!

In Music, we are learning to sing new songs including There’s a Spider on my toes! The children are becoming more confident when performing and the afternoon children even set up a stage to perform on. The chairs were arranged like an audience, the children wore costumes and watched each other with enjoyment. We encourage imagination and creativity and as you can imagine, we love singing in Nursery, so thank you for encouraging it at home too!

Phonics

In Phonics, the Caterpillars group (children staying in nursery in September) have been playing some name recognition games, clapping syllables, playing sound games and lots of oral blending. The Butterflies group (children going into Reception) have learnt the following sounds this week. We need to recognise them speedily…

Thank you again for practising oral blending at home, I can see they are really making progress with this! Try it while you are out and about, can they say what you see by blending the sounds to say the word? I am wearing a h-a-t, I am wearing a c-oa-t.

The oracy skill we are working on this week is speaking clearly. We listen to the speaker, wait our turn to speak and speak clearly so they can hear. To help at home, listen and encourage your child to speak clearly. If they struggle with some speech sounds, repeat the word back clearly, in Nursery we don’t say they are wrong we repeat the word correctly and clearly. Your child’s voice is so important, the UN Children’s Rights, Article 13 is Freedom of expression. Children have the right to think freely and share their thoughts, ideas, and information, provided it does not harm the rights of others. Our Oracy clear voice reminder…

Our story this week…

This week we share The Enormous Turnip again but this time the musical version. We also enjoyed reading Not Now Bernard! Bernard finds a monster in the garden but Mum and Dad are too busy to listen to him. The monster is ignored too! My favourite part was when he said, “But I’m a Monster!” and Mum turned out the light and replied… “Not Now Bernard!” Can your child retell the story and their favourite part?

Come and Read has now finished, thank you for sharing your time and lovely stories with us.

Certificates

Well done to Adam, who has enjoyed playing in Nursery this week.

Transition

This week, one of our Reception teachers, Mrs Prest shared a story with the children. They enjoyed listening to Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to spend some time with one of their new teachers.

Attendance: Pupil Absences

Thank you for letting the school office know if your child will be absent from Nursery. Holiday forms can also be collected from the office. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children, this includes attendance in Nursery and Reception. Please contact the school office if your child will not be attending Nursery that day. If your child has not attended Nursery for three days without contact, school will be contacting you with a child welfare phone call.

Lateness

At the beginning of every Nursery session we do a daily OT session. This includes, finger strengthening exercises, dough and dance, dance and draw, and crossing the line activities. (For children to become physically balanced they need to cross the “midline” or “centre line”, the line that runs down the middle of their bodies.) If your child was late this week, please try to practise some of these skills at home too. Lots of activities with pens, pencils, crayons and chalks will help too.

Uniform

We have lots of unclaimed uniform in school in the corridor. If you are missing any, please pop in to check and also please ensure all uniform has your child’s name on. Please return any borrowed uniform as soon as possible.

Water Bottles

Please label water bottles. Thank you for your support with our oral health programme by providing water in your child’s water bottle.

We hope you have a lovely weekend! Mrs Huggins
