On Monday, we turned blue Monday bright by wearing bright clothes to raise awareness and money for the Headlight Project. We had a happy day playing with our friends and enjoyed doing some fun activities. We shared the story Elmer and talked about what makes us different and happy. We have also talked about being a good friend and just like Elmer, we thought a good friend makes you laugh!
Later in the week, we spotted some magpies nesting in the school grounds. So we have decided to learn a bit more about the birds we see every day at nursery. Mrs Huggins registered us to do the BIG BIRD WATCH, for the RSPB, so we have been finding out about the work they do and doing the BIG BIRD WATCH. It was such fun, although we didn’t see many little birds! We saw three seagulls, two magpies, two pigeons and a blackbird! Maybe you will have better luck in your gardens this weekend! If you are out and about this weekend, look out for the different birds and maybe put a bird feeder in your garden to encourage more garden birds.
And look a the morning children go in PE this week. Mrs Short was so proud of all of the children, they showed great listening skills and perseverance with their ball skills! Mrs Huggins said, “If they keep going like this they could all play for Boro!” 🙂
This week the skill we have been talking lots about is independence. We continue to encourage the children to go to the toilet independently, wash their hands regularly and wipe their own noses. (Catch it, bin it, kill it!) Please encourage this at home too. Thank you.
Story of the Week
We have enjoyed sharing the story Elmer by David McKee and also an RSPB story called Luck Duck.
Each time you share a story try using these sentences… “I wonder what this story is going to be about?” “This reminds me of…” and when you have finished reading try, “My favourite part was when…” This sounds simple but is invaluable when reading with your child! It develops skills including prediction, making links and connections, recalling story parts and opinions. If you would like to borrow any more books from nursery please let me know.
