It has been another busy week in Key Stage 1 and the children are working extremely hard.
IHL and 1TS – In english this week, the children have been composing and writing sentences with subject, verb and object. E.g. The boy is reading a book. We moved on in maths to counting backwards and identifying what is one less than a given number to 10 – keep practising this at home! Science this week has been really interesting – we collected Autumn leaves and used our leaf detective sheet to identify the trees they came from. New vocabulary we learnt was evergreen and deciduous. In music, Mrs Huggins was super impressed as the children composed their own song to a familiar tunes and Miss Stainthorpe was pleased with the progress the children are making in PE.
1MG – 1MG have been exploring character descriptions this week, looking at adjective phrases and how we write a character description. In Maths, they have been looking further at place value and estimating numbers on a number line. What a busy week!
If you are out and about this weekend take time to look at the trees around you and describe what you can see. What does evergreen and deciduous mean? What are the benefits of trees?
