KS1 Weekly News 22.9.23

Such a busy week in KS1 – We learnt about landmarks in Middlesbrough, took part in National Fitness Day and also had our daily maths, english, phonics and handwriting! The children also thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the local area on Thursday (we heard someone say, “This is the best day ever!”) We walked safely to Acklam Hall looking for human and physical features on the way. We saw the ‘Avenue of Trees,’ the duck pond and enjoyed searching for conkers under the trees! What a lovely week in KS1!

IHL – This week has been a lovely week in 1HL. In english, the children have been writing simple sentences with a verb and an subject. Maths this week we are looking at number words and place value within 10. In art, we’ve been learning different techniques using oil pastels, practising yoga poses in Mighty Warriors, learning our school science principles and asking lots of question about Autumn – we are very inquisitive!

1TS – Children in 1TS are also writing simple sentences and learning about using a capital letter at the beginning, finger spaces between words and finish with a full stop. In maths we have been looking at number words and place value within 10. 1TS have been finding out about landmarks in Middlesbrough, seasonal changes in science and listened really well in Mighty Warriors with Rachel.

1MG – In english IMG have been writing a poem about the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. It uses a repeating phrase as well as rhyming couplets. In maths IMG have been working on place value and exploring multiple ways to partition a number. The children had fun in science building bridges with Lego – they were testing them to see how sturdy they were.

Can you be an Autumn tree and leaf detective around Middlesbrough this weekend? We wonder what you will see?

The children continue to follow the Golden Rules and we are looking for children who are showing us our school values – INSPIRE, ENJOY, ACHIEVE! Thank you to those parents who have been inspired to take their children to see different places in Middlesbrough – If you are out and about exploring Middlesbrough this weekend send us a photo to the school email address – we love to see it when the children are inspired to make connections outside of school!
