Nursery 20.2.26

This week we have been focussing on nursery routines and independence. We welcomed some new children, so some of the children who have been in nursery for longer have been showing them around and helping them to settle in. The children also helped Mrs Huggins paint a huge knight for World Book Week. We decided to follow Art Hub for Kids and draw our own! We love following along with Art Hub for Kids, it’s a great skill even for little ones; there are lots of simple ones to follow that are great for teaching us to draw and for adding detail to our drawings.

On Tuesday, it was Shrove Tuesday. We tasted pancakes and talked about what we liked for pancake toppings!

In PE, we played games using our ball skills and Mrs Short was super impressed with the progress we have made! The morning children had a penalty shoot out and the afternoon children were working on their aiming skills too! We have also been practising moving in different ways. To help at home practise, walking backwards, on tiptoes, skipping, galloping and marching.

In phonics, we focussed on environmental sounds and oral blending. At home, help by saying the sounds and your child has to say the word. E.g. Would you like some j-a-m on your bread? Can they say j-a-m, jam. Start with simple CVC words. (consonant, vowel, consonant)

In music, we were using different voices for singing. We tried loud, quiet, quick, slow, tired and excited voices!

We are encouraging lots of mark making with different tools like, chalk, crayons, pencils, pens. Please encourage your child to have some mark making time at home too.

Can your child copy patterns you draw? Can they colour in simple pictures. We don’t need to form letters just yet, we need to have the strength to write! So lots of patterns, mark making and fine motor skills will help.

A motivational, fun approach to developing handwriting skills This website has some great ideas for help with developing handwriting skills.

The children have been so busy this week. We hope you have a good rest ready for Spring 2!

Have a lovely half term everyone!

Stories this week…

We chose to read I want a Friend, by Tony Ross, Ten Little Pirates by Simon Rickerty and Mr Wolf’s Pancakes by Jan Fearnley. Which books have you been reading at home this week?
