Nursery 13.2.26

This week it was Children’s Mental Health Week, we talked about what makes us happy. On Tuesday, it was Internet Safety Day and the focus was AI. We talked about different devices that might use AI and how to stay safe using voice activated devices. We shared a story about a little girl called Roo. She thought her voice activated device was a real friend until she realised with Dad’s help, that it was just a computer trained to do things like answer questions, play music or turn the lights on and off. We talked about what voice activated devices can and can’t do!

Here are some picture of this weeks learning…

In maths, we are learning about positional language and enjoyed setting up an obstacle course where we moved through the tunnel, under the chair, around the cones and over the bench. Later in the week, we built a track for the Hex Bug to travel around and talked about what we were building in the blocks and Lego.

In phonics, we are clapping the syllables in our names and practising oral blending, for example, say the sounds, c-a-t, say the word, cat. If your child starts doing this at home, that is fantastic, keep encouraging them to use the pure letter sounds not the letter names.

In music, this week we listened to the song Lollipop by the Chordettes. The skills we are learning at the moment are using different voices and keeping the beat to music.

Haven’t we been busy!

Stories this week…

We chose to read these books this week…

Mixed, because we’ve talked lots this week about playing with different friends in nursery and I want My Mum, because it’s Valentine’s Day on Saturday and we said we all love our Mums!

Each time you share a story try using these sentences… “I wonder what this story is going to be about?” “This reminds me of…” and when you have finished reading try, “My favourite part was when…” This sounds simple but is invaluable when reading with your child! It develops skills including prediction, making links and connections, recalling story parts and opinions. If you would like to borrow any more books from nursery for bedtimes please let me know.
