Welcome back to our final term in Reception and it is going to be a busy one! What have Reception been doing this week?

- In ‘Talk through stories’, we have been listening to and discussing the story – Aliens love underpants, about aliens who come to Earth and love to steal underpants.
- The children have been learning about Space in science this week, understanding facts about the Earth, Moon and Sun.
- In Maths, we were learning about how to use a Rekenrek (A counting frame) that helps the children develop their subitising skills.
- In PE, the children have started to practice athletics, ready for Sports Day. This week they have used hurdles, practised a bean bag relay and dribbling.
Blast Off!
We have changed the role play area into a space station, linking with the science on Space.

We love to write in Reception, every morning the children strengthen their fingers using playdough or write while listening to music (warm up hand activities).

Reception Early Learning Goals
The Early Learning Goals are not used as a curriculum or in anyway to limit the wide variety of rich experiences that are crucial to child development. The ELGs support us to make holistic, best-fit judgement about a child’s development at the end of EYFS and their readiness for Year 1. Our ELGs are set out below:

Key Notices
Stay and Play

Thank you to those Parents and Carers who enjoyed visiting or ‘Stay and Play’ sessions. Reception would like to invite Parents and Carers to come and have a ‘Stay and Play’ on an afternoon with their child. Each week, 4 Parents or Carers at a time need to sign up at the door to sign up for one of the Thursdays this Summer term (1 adult per child).
Attendance: Pupil Absences
If your child is absent, excess of 2 days, schools are required to complete a welfare check on the third day, this supports the safeguarding of the child. Ideally you will be contacted to arrange the visit, however, if school are unable to contact you, an unannounced visit will take place and a calling card provided. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children and appreciate your support.
Uniform
Your child needs to wear school uniform so they feel part of the Newham Bridge family. This includes:
* Red jumper or cardigan * Grey skirt or trousers * White shirt or polo shirt * Black shoes (velcro).
A suitable coat (for all weathers)
Children are learning to put their cardigans and jumpers in trays independently if they don’t want to wear them and their coats on pegs, but it is really important that these items are labelled with your child’s full name.
PE Days

PE sessions have changed. PE will take place:
Monday and Thursday – Athletics – Preparing for Sports Day
Children need to come to school in their PE kits:
Black joggers / leggings, white polo shirt and black trainers
It is easier for girls to wear socks rather than tights so they can put on their socks and shoes easily. Please practise with your child putting their socks and shoes on independently.
Super Readers
Well done to these children who have been sharing and reading their books at home.

Handwriting Competition
Well done to Freddie and Amina who were chosen for their excellent handwriting.
