What have Reception been doing this week?

- In ‘Talk through stories’, we have been listening to Mog the forgetful cat– About a family cat who forgets many things like where the cat flap is, that she has already had her supper or that she can’t fly – ‘Bother that cat!’.
- In Maths, we continued to learn composition of numbers 6 to 9, understanding the ‘having 5 and a bit’ structure – making 5 and 1, making 5 and 2…
- In PE, the children continued to learn skills in attack and defending games, playing ‘Sharks and fishes’.
- In Science, the children learned about freezing and melting. Mrs Lach talked to them about what happens to juice when placed into a cold place – making frozen ice lollipops and then they tasted them the following day. They were delicious!
- We also talked about ‘David Attenborough’ and wished him a Happy 100th Birthday. We talked about how he has helped us to understand nature and how we should look after our Earth, linking it also to our Respecting Rights Article 24.

Reception Early Learning Goals
The Early Learning Goals are not used as a curriculum or in anyway to limit the wide variety of rich experiences that are crucial to child development. The ELGs support us to make holistic, best-fit judgement about a child’s development at the end of EYFS and their readiness for Year 1. Our ELGs are set out below:

Key Notices
The Reception team would love to invite Parents and Carers to a ‘Next steps and Learning’ Meeting‘. The meeting will take place Tuesday 12th May 9am-9.15pm.
Attendance: Pupil Absences
If your child is absent, excess of 2 days, schools are required to complete a welfare check on the third day, this supports the safeguarding of the child. Ideally you will be contacted to arrange the visit, however, if school are unable to contact you, an unannounced visit will take place and a calling card provided. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children and appreciate your support.
Uniform
Your child needs to wear school uniform so they feel part of the Newham Bridge family. This includes:
* Red jumper or cardigan * Grey skirt or trousers * White shirt or polo shirt * Black shoes (velcro).
A suitable coat (for all weathers)
Children are learning to put their cardigans and jumpers in trays independently if they don’t want to wear them and their coats on pegs, but it is really important that these items are labelled with your child’s full name.
PE Days

PE sessions have changed. PE will take place:
Monday – Ball skills – Rackets and balls
Thursday – Mrs Short – Attack and Defence games
Children need to come to school in their PE kits:
Black joggers / leggings, white polo shirt and black trainers
It is easier for girls to wear socks rather than tights so they can put on their socks and shoes easily. Please practise with your child putting their socks and shoes on independently.
Come and Read

Every Monday, parents are invited to join their child on a morning to come and read a book. When the doors open at 8.40am, parents can pop into reception and share a book with their child until doors close at 9.00am.
Super Readers
Well done to Lilly-Lee and Alys for sharing 150 books at home and to Aksel for reaching 50 shared books at home – Happy Reading!
