This week went by incredibly quickly.
On Monday, we started the day with a dress rehearsal of Shakespeare Rocks, performed in front of the rest of school. The children sang beautifully and the staff and pupils watching really enjoyed the show. We then continued with our maths learning all about negative numbers. The children learned a little more about counting through zero and how we then move steps away from zero as we get smaller. If you’d like some more help with this maths topic, please click HERE. We also completed our final Star reading assessment of the year.
On Tuesday, we published our final piece of writing for this year – a persuasive letter to Mrs Hewitt Best. The children’s work was phenomenal, using a great range of techniques to persuade as well as many wonderful examples of year 5 writing features. We also continued to look at counting through negative numbers in different multiples.
Wednesday was excellent, as we were able to practice for the final time before performing Shakespeare Rocks for the first time to a full audience of parents. The children were incredible and sang and performed as well as we have ever seen them. We were all so proud.
On Thursday, we began the day with a second performance of Shakespeare Rocks to parents and family. Again, the children were wonderful and performed really well. In the afternoon we continued with our work on the ancient Mayans. The children thought carefully about the accomplishments and achievements which made the Maya remarkable.
We ended the week with a fun day of STEM at Middlesbrough College. The children participated in workshops including green screen media and TV, sports science, germs and hygiene, interactive media, electrical wiring, plumbing and engineering and aerodynamics. We also came away with a free gift!
All tickets for the performances have now been handed out.
