Spring 2 Week 2 – 13.3.26

Happy Friday – the 13th!!! 🙂

This week has been assessment week in school, so some slight changes to our normal timetable.

In English, we completed assessments in both Reading and Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar. The children worked brilliantly to read and answer some really tricky questions all about the story of The Princess and the Frog, as well as a report all about Amelia Earheart. They were asked to retrieve information from the text, infer meaning from what was written, summarise and sequence the text too. In ESPG, the children had to show their understanding of different types of punctuation and show to to use it correctly within sentences. They also had to show their knowledge of standard English and that they could follow particular rules of grammar.

In writing, we completed our drafts of a setting description related to Hansel and Gretel. We some some wonderful sentences including expanded noun phrases to add description, present tense verbs and a range of adverbials of place and manner to help the reader create a vivid image in their mind of the location we were describing.

In Maths, we showed both our arithmetic skills and reasoning skills by completing two assessments. We used lots of written and mental methods to show our calculation skills and then read problems very carefully to show our understanding of a range of different areas of maths.

We continued our topic work by learning a little more about the Vikings and what the Anglo-Saxons thought of them when they arrived in England from Scandinavia. We also worked on out netball skills in PE – some of the children represented the school brilliantly at a netball festival on Wednesday and a netball competition on Thursday. Well done to all of them – you made us very proud! On Friday, we continued our PE work on Golf, by learning more about putting – feet in the right position and a simple tick-tock to roll the ball towards the hole / target.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE YORK TRIP CONSENT AND PAYMENT ON ARBOR!

Our trip to York is on Tuesday 24th Marchwe return to school at approximately 16:30 that day.

Well done to our Pupils of the week. They have had a fantastic week. Awesome!
