Spring 2 week 5 – 4th April

We have had a brilliant week in school – working hard, learning new things and having fun!

We all enjoyed a cheeky Monday off school (except the staff – they were working) and we came back on Tuesday, fully refreshed and ready to show off our Taiko skills to our parents. We put on a fantastic show, playing 2 different pieces – we loved it!

In English we continued to plan and prepare a set of instructions all about making a spell for a witch. We have been looking carefully at the language and grammar features contained in this type of writing and are trying hard to showcase the great progress we’ve made in writing.

In Maths, we completed our unit of work on Perimeter and Area, and we learned some different techniques to calculate the area of rectangles and then how to apply that to compound shapes. If you’d like more information see HERE.

We have continued to learn more about the marvellous Maya civilisation. We looked at how we have evidence to show what their society was like and how they were structured and ruled. We even created our own city states and went to war with each other (rock, paper, scissors)!

In Science we learned how to separate mixtures of materials and looked specifically at separating 2 solids using sieving, a solid from a liquid using filtration and 2 different solid using magnetism. We’ll be looking at how these are applied in the real world and why its necessary to both combine and separate materials.

It was Schools Football week and we had a brilliant time engaging in a range of fun and competitive football games. We loved the Intra-House tournament on Thursday and showed some great qualities, such as determination and teamwork – as well as top level skills!

On Friday, we ended the week with a real treat – food tasting. As part of our DT project, we taste tested a wide range of modern and traditional Mexican foods, with a view to creating our own mean next week. Delicious!

Congratulations to our two Pupils of the Week!

In 2DJ, congratulations to Hazel – she always sets a wonderful example for others in her effort, behaviour and attitude to learning! Well done!

In 2HS,

Happy Birthday to Leo – We hope you’ve had a brilliant day!
