With the bank holiday Monday, we have had a short week this week, but we’ve still crammed lots in.
In English we have been leaning about an ancient form of poetry from Japan – Haiku. These short structured poems tend to focus on the beauty of nature and try to capture those moments using carefully chosen language. The children have written some wonderful Haiku about the seasons, sunsets, bears, birds, waterfalls and forests. Ask them if they can remember the rules of the poem and some examples they wrote.
Maths this week, focused on angles. We were learning how to classify them, estimate the size of them in degrees and even started to use protractors to try and accurately measure a variety of angles. Using a protractor is quite tricky, so please have a go at this activity, which should help. ONLINE ACTIVITY

In Science we continued our children challenging industry programme in school, by thinking a bit more about dissolving solids. The idea behind the investigation was to help support the generation of electricity in fuel cells (commonly used in the car industry). We were able to identify which particular solids dissolved the fastest and could therefore potentially be used when coating the fuel cell.
Swimming sessions concluded this week. We are incredibly proud of the children who went and experienced some super success. All of the children gained masses of confidence in the water and always gave their best efforts. Well done to all the children who achieved their 25metres certificate. The non-swimmers had a brilliant time designing and making their upcycled clothing, to highlight the need for sustainable fashion and recycling.
This week, the girls had session 2 of their move and learn programme with MFC and the boys continued with their outdoor learning, which today included knot tying and shelter building.
In PE, we loved our Dynamo Cricket taster session this morning, playing a great game called last batter standing. Some incredible batting and catching from the children. They have been given a leaflet with more information about the free sessions at the local cricket clubs.
