Homework Week Beginning 07.04.2025

Today your child received 20 Spellings to learn ready for Friday’s sentence dictation for 10 of these spellings. These are all spellings the children commonly make errors in, it is hoped by learning their unique spelling patterns is will help them in their writing: infectious, adoration, nutritious, explosion, antique, suspicious, preparation, vicious, brochure, delicious, fictitious, invasion, precious, parachute, transportation, collision, chef, confusion, admiration, plaque. We recommend 5 minutes every night reading, writing, speaking their spellings. On EdShed this week their are two grammar games to complete linked to active and passive voice this is an area of their grammar the children have found challenging this year. We are currently writing in the active voice so hopefully these games will support your child’s recall and understanding of this sentence structure.

Every week for Reading your child will have their own reading book chosen from the library to quiz on using Accelerated Reader, and they will receive personalised set assignments on Reading Plus to complete (your child will have time in school to access Reading Plus too to ensure they can complete the assignments).

For Maths this week, children have been given the opportunity to play the games they wish to on TTRS. We hope they enjoy the freedom to choose the games they enjoy most 🙂

NRICH Live Problem

This problem is similar to Light the Lights, but slightly more tricky. You may like to try that one first.

Here is a machine with four coloured lights. Each light responds to a rule.

When you type in a number, lights go on if their rule is satisfied.

If the number satisfies more than one rule, then more than one colour will light up.

Type in some numbers and see which lights you can switch on.

Andrew (author of SATs Like a Ninja and experienced Y6 teacher) will be uploading Maths Arithmetic Revision videos every week for the next 16 weeks via his YouTube channel. If you would like to engage in this, please follow the link to register: https://vocabularyninja.co.uk/16-weeks-to-sats/. This week is Week 13: Addition and Subtraction with Fractions.

For English this week, we would like your child to complete their own piece of writing based on this image. We would like your child to produce their own piece of writing. It can be any genre – Newspaper report, Narrative, Speech, Diary Entry, Habitat Report, Poem – we want them to be creative and demonstrate their writing ability through their application of sentence types and higher order punctuation.
