Nursery 28.11.25

The children have amazed us this week learning our nativity songs, we can’t wait to share them with you all. You can find them on You Tube if your child wants an extra practise! (Starshine Music – A Little Nativity)

We have also been reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff and making some lovely gifts for the Winter Fair next week. Thank you for sending in contributions to our nursery baking hamper for the fair, it looks amazing so far!

In phonics, we have been blending sounds to say words. Playing this at home will be really helpful, for example, Pass me the j-a-m. Where is my h-a-t? Pat the d-o-g. In school, we use the reading scheme Read Write Inc. We use the letter sounds (phonemes) to teach reading not the letter names. If you practise blending to say words at home, please use the letter sounds. (See the Read, Write Inc video below set 1 to remind you of the phonemes.) We start to teach the letter graphemes when the children are ready.

And in Music, we sang Teddy Bear Teddy Bear, The Mill Song and we sang ‘See-saw, up and down, in the air and on the ground.’ Mr Na-na was singing too and we tried to guess the tune!

Skills we are practising: Please encourage your child to put their own coat and wellies on, we are teaching them to be more independent and to look after their own things. (Please can you name all items sent to school, including hats, scarves and gloves) If your child comes home with someone else’s by mistake, please return it to school, thank you 🙂 For more information about developing independence take a look at the parent support page.

Story of the Week

The story we have enjoyed sharing together this week has been The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We then made bridges and retold the story using our story bag. Can your child use words to describe the troll? Can you predict what might happen next? Which traditional story do you like to share at home?

Nursery Pupil of the Week

This week has been another lovely, busy week in nursery and we would like to give our Pupil of the Week certificate to Cruze for joining in with lots of different activities. Well done Cruze!
