Spring 2 week 4 – Friday 27.3.26

Góðan dag! We’ve had a really busy week – including a fantastic trip to York (Jorvik).

Our trip, on Tuesday, was absolutely brilliant. The children were excellent and represented the school really well, whilst we were out-and-about in York, at The Jorvik Viking Centre and at Dig. We were able to visit York Minster, walk down The Shambles, go back in time on the ride at Jorvik, speak to Vikings* about home life, money and slaves, as well as learn all about their battle tactics in raids, thanks to a workshop at Dig. We had a great day. Takk!

In English, we have been preparing a new piece of writing – a recount letter. We used our knowledge of Hansel and Gretel, to write a letter back to their father telling him all about their time in the woods. We’ll need to use a range of techniques to really show off our skill as a year 5 writer.

We also looked back at our understanding of retrieval questions and answered a range of questions brilliantly by identifying the answer in the text, highlighting it and then writing it down.

In Maths, we finished off our work on area and perimeter and began a new unit all about statistics. We added data from tables into line graphs and began to interpret them a little.

Well done to our Pupils of the week. They have had a fantastic week. Awesome!

Angel in 2HB – excellent enthusiasm and taking a keen interest on the trip to York!

Rhys in 2DJ – represented the class brilliantly on the trip, with his great behaviour and knowledge of the Vikings.
