Spring 1 Week 3 – Friday 23.1.26

Week 3: another brilliant week from Year 5!

We have had a great week with some wonderful work and some very exciting after-school clubs.

In English we finished our draft writing based on the narrative Alma. We made some big decisions on the story this week: would Alma actually get her doll or would the dollmaker stop her from taking it home. There were some really creative ideas – all of which involved just a little bit of magic and mystery. In terms of our learning, we looked at the effect of altering the order of speech sentences; the way 3 short sharp sentences can create tension and drama and using colons and commas in lists. You can watch the film here… ALMA FILM. we will be editing and publishing our stories next week!

In Maths, we ended our unit of work on fractions. We have now started to look at the way fractions have an equivalence to decimals and how we can confidently write and use numbers with two decimal places. We really got to grips with it well and are confident in reading decimal numbers with tenths and hundredths. If you’d like to learn more you can visit HERE.

In PE, we were unfortunately unable to go outside and continue with Netball due to the wet weather. We did however have an incredible dance session on Just Dance in the classroom. It was lots of fun! We were great in our latest session of Yoga, with Mighty Warriors. Superb movement, strength and holding of poses.

Our reading work linked heavily to our topic about the Anglo-Saxons. This week’s text was all about the greatest historical treasure hoard, ever found in England: The treasures of Sutton Hoo. If you’d like to know more about it, you can visit the BRITISH MUSEUM website to learn more about the finds and treasures from an Anglo-Saxon king.

Well done to our Pupils of the week. They have had a fantastic week. Awesome!

Sahira in 2HB – has had a brilliant first week at school and settled in wonderfully!

Nyolah in 2DJ – a great week of work, especially with her writing in English!
