Spring 1 Wk 2

Spring Term 1 – Friday 16.1.2026

Two weeks gone already: this term is flying by!

The children have a good (very lively) week. There’s been lots of hard work but also lots of fun and games (particularly their new favourite game: Empires).

In English we continued our written work based on the narrative Alma. Our big focus in lessons, was how to write effective and accurate dialogue. we looked at accurate punctuation (which is essential) as well as adding adverbials to really paint a picture in the readers mind about how the characters spoke or what actions they performed as they spoke. You can watch the film here… ALMA FILM. You can learn more about ADVERBIALS here.

In Maths, we to focus on fractions. This week’s work really looked at finding fractions of amounts. For example… what is one fifth of thirty? Or what is three quarters of forty four? The children have worked really well and have understood that they should divide the whole number by the denominator and then multiply that answer by the numerator: (divide by the bottom and times by the top). For example…what is one fifth of thirty? 30 divided by 5 = 6. 6 multiplied by 1 = 6. OR What is three quarters of forty four? 44 divided by 4 = 11. 11 multiplied by 3 = 33. You can see more HERE.

In PE, we developed our understanding of Netball. We focussed on passing accurately and then moving into space. Making sure we didn’t walk with the ball in-hand. We were able to pivot on one foot to look for a pass. We also didn’t hold onto the ball for longer than 3 seconds. We also had another lovely, calm session of Yoga this week, with Mighty Warriors. We really focussed on correct breathing and postures when performing the movements.

We continued our topic about the Anglo-Saxons. Our focus was on what life in England was like at the end of the 5th Century. Rome had begun to struggle to look after Britannia and the tribes about England and the rest of Europe began to see an opportunity for raids. If you’d like to know some of the basics, you can watch this video… ANGLO SAXON ENGLAND.
