The children have worked brilliantly this week, and have shown how they have settled in well and are working very hard – as well as having lots of fun!
English – In English lessons this week, we have been really looking into the structure of sentences by focusing on the Subject and Verb and how that helps us to create independent clauses. We also looked at how pronouns help to avoid repetition of the noun or noun phrase when we are writing single clause sentences. Our reading this week, was all about a great book – Invisible by Tom Percival. The children learned about how the author’s real life experiences influenced the story of Isabel (a sad, lonely girl) and how she ended up making a difference to her community. We also looked at a lovely book in Book Club all about a very curious penguin. The children really enjoyed both of our focus texts this week.
Maths – Our new maths unit began to develop our understanding of multiples, common multiples and factors. We used our knowledge of both multiplication and division to support in this tricky are of learning. If you’d like to know more then have a look HERE.
Science this week was all about the phases of the moon – and it just happened to coincide with a lovely full moon earlier in the week! The moon appears to change shape in the sky, each evening, but we learned that it’s actually the amount of sunlight which reflects back off the moon at various times during its orbit around Earth, that makes it look a bit different. Learn more HERE.
In Art, we looked at a wonderful portrait artist Noor Bahjat, and studied how she uses collage to create unusually realistic images of people. We are working on creating our self-portrait (in her style) and would be very grateful if the children could bring in some old magazines, comics or leaflets, which we could cut up and use in our art work next week.
