Reception firstly listened to the story of ‘The Great Race’ – How Chinese New Year came about. This linked with our maths, as we were learning about ordinal numbers. In ‘Talked through stories’, the children listened to the story ‘Zog’ Julia Donaldson, building on changing their voices, understanding different vocabulary and understanding feelings. In PE, we continued developing our dancing skills, moving in different ways and continued to develop ball skills using their feet. They also had the opportunity to taste pancakes with their favourite toppings – delicious! On Thursday afternoon, it was the school disco and many children had lots of fun dancing their socks off!

Key Notices

Attendance: Pupil Absences

If your child is absent, excess of 2 days, schools are required to complete a welfare check on the third day, this supports the safeguarding of the child. Ideally you will be contacted to arrange the visit, however, if school are unable to contact you, an unannounced visit will take place and a calling card provided. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children and appreciate your support.

Uniform

Your child needs to wear school uniform so they feel part of the Newham Bridge family. This includes:

* Red jumper or cardigan * Grey skirt or trousers * White shirt or polo shirt * Black shoes (velcro).

A suitable coat (for all weathers)

Children are learning to put their cardigans and jumpers in trays independently if they don’t want to wear them and their coats on pegs, but it is really important that these items are labelled with your child’s full name.

PE Days

PE sessions have changed. PE will take place:

Monday – Ball skills – Rackets and balls

Thursday – Mrs Short – Gymnastics

Children need to come to school in their PE kits:

Black joggers / leggings, white polo shirt and black trainers

It is easier for girls to wear socks rather than tights so they can put on their socks and shoes easily. Please practise with your child putting their socks and shoes on independently.

Come and Read

Every Monday, parents are invited to join their child on a morning to come and read a book. When the doors open at 8.40am, parents can pop into reception and share a book with their child until doors close at 9.00am.
