KS1 Class News 20.09.24

We have had another wonderful week in KS1.

In Maths, 1TS have been practising counting forwards and counting on from any number within 10. We have also been finding a number that is one more than an other number within 10. The children have been using practical equipment to aid their understanding and have become increasingly more confident as we have progressed through the week. 1MG and 1AC have been exploring number lines. We recapped the term ‘estimating’ and applied this to our number line work. The children have been super mathematicians this week!

In English, 1TS have continued practising their capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and have been applying them in simple sentences. We have been practising composing our own sentences verbally and orally rehearsing them altogether. We have been applying the phonics sounds we know to spell words accurately! It as been lovely to see the children using their special friends correctly. 1MG and 1AC have been using exploring different verbs and identifying them in given sentences. We then progressed to writing our own sentences using different verbs.

1MG and 1AC have thoroughly enjoyed our Reading Emersion session this week. We explored the text ‘Wormy Spaghetti’ by Roald Dahl. We engaged in some whole class role play which helped to really bring the story to life – the children loved it!

In Topic, 1TS have focused on daily weather patterns. We watched a real weather forecast and explored different weather symbols and their meanings. We have started our own daily weather tracker and will be tracking the weather across a 2 week period. We are looking forward to analysing our data.

Notices

Your child should have received a letter about our Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRF) in Maths. KIRFs are facts your child needs to be able to recall with speed and accuracy. Each letter will explain the objective your child is working on for the half term; it will give you an example of a task your child will do in school, vocabulary and home learning ideas. We suggest working with your child little and often at home to help them recall these facts to support mental maths work in school.
