HAPPY NEW YEAR! A good start for EYFS, our attendance was good and it was lovely to see everyone. The children came back to school ready to share their ideas and imagination. In circle time this week, the children talked about what they did over the Christmas holidays. In maths, the children revisited subitising and began to learn about ‘more than/ less than’. In PE, the children learned about their balancing skills in gymnastics and how to be safe around the apparatus. We have been also been focusing on the story ‘Elmer’, through ‘Talking through stories’, helping children love their stories and bring them to life, building on their comprehension skills. The children had a lovely end to the week, listening to Year 6 children read them stories in the hall.

Key Notices

Attendance: Pupil Absence

If your child is absent, for in excess of 2 days, schools are required to complete a welfare check on the third day, this supports the safeguarding of the child. Ideally you will be contacted to arrange the visit, however, if school are unable to contact you, an unannounced visit will take place and a calling card provided. We have a statutory responsibility to safeguard all of our children and appreciate your support.

Uniform

Your child needs to wear school uniform so they feel part of the Newham Bridge family. This includes:

* Red jumper or cardigan * Grey skirt or trousers * White shirt or polo shirt * Black shoes (velcro).

A suitable coat (for all weathers)

Children are learning to put their cardigans and jumpers in trays independently if they don’t want to wear them and their coats on pegs, but it is really important that these items are labelled with your child’s full name.

PE Days

PE sessions have changed. PE will take place:

Monday – Cricket skills

Thursday – Mrs Short – Gymnastics

Children need to come to school in their PE kits:

Black joggers / leggings, white polo shirt and black trainers

It is easier for girls to wear socks rather than tights so they can put on their socks and shoes easily. Please practise with your child putting their socks and shoes on independently.

Come and Read

Every Monday, parents are invited to join their child on a morning to come and read a book. When the doors open at 8.40am, parents can pop into reception and share a book with their child until doors close at 9.00am.

Pupil of the Week

In Rainbow group, Pupil of the Week goes to Harper, for always interacting in the group discussions, sharing her ideas.

In Sunshine group, Pupil of the Week goes to Ocean, always being friendly and happily interacting in the areas.

Birthdays

We have had three birthdays this week all on the same day. We would like to wish Kate, Sinam and Ocean on their 5th birthdays. Happy Birthday!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
