We have had a wonderful and busy week in KS1 this week!
In Maths, 1TS started the week consolidating their one more and one less from last week. We then explored comparing objects and progressed onto greater than, less than and equal to.
1MG and 1AC have been consolidating number bonds to 10 and 20. We have also learnt about fact families, which our number bonds really helped with this. Fact families are using 3 number and writing as many number sentences as we can.
In English, 1TS have been exploring ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ which we have linked to our PSHE lesson about friendship and kindness.
1MG and 1AC started the week reviewing verbs and progressed onto identifying the subject and verbs in sentences.
1MG and 1AC have thoroughly enjoyed our Reading Emersion session this week. It was National Poetry day so we explored the poem ‘The Spell’. We listened to some music and described how it made us feel. We then collected the ingredients from the poem to make our own flying potion spell – the children loved it!
In Topic, 1TS went on an Autumn Walk around the school and collected Autumnal objects. We thought of the vocabulary we could use to describe the objects and then we did some observational drawing of our objects we collected.
1MG and 1AC have been analysing weather in Geography and looking at the meaning of the symbols on a weather map. We also analysed the weather for the month of September. In Science we have been exploring everyday materials and looking at why objects are made using certain materials.
Notices
Your child has received a letter all about Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRF) in Maths. KIRFs are facts your child needs to be able to recall with speed and accuracy. Each letter will explain the objective your child is working on for the half term; it will give you an example of a task your child will do in school, vocabulary and home learning ideas. We suggest working with your child little and often at home to help them recall these facts to support mental maths work in school.

Pupil of the week in 1AC is Charlotte for always being a super sensible role model and encouraging others to listen during lessons.
Pupil of the week in 1MG is Ava for determined attitude to her work also accepting that others find things tricky and thats ok.
