KS1 Class News 17.01.25

Yet another fantastic week in KS1! Our children have been fantastic this week.

In Maths, 1TS have been applying their knowledge of addition and subtraction to solve tricky word problems! The children were fantastic at applying taught methods and explaining how they reached their answers.

1MG and 1AC have been calculating and comparing money this week. They have been exploring how they can make different amounts in different ways using coins and notes.

In English, 1TS have been working hard on building single-clause sentences. The children can now confidently identify and punctuate an independent clause with capital letters and full stops. We are looking forward to extending this further next week as we begin to write our own single-clause sentences.

1MG and 1AC have been working on expanded noun phrases, adverbials and subordinating conjunctions. It has been lovely to watch the children develop their understanding and apply these key concepts into their writing independently – well done.

In Geography, 1TS and 1MG have introduced our new topic ‘Land Ahoy’. We have been learning about the famous explorer, Captain James Cook. The children have loved listening to the timeline of Cook’s life events and making connections to our local area! We plotted the significant events of Cook’s life and work on our school timeline. Going forward, the children will be exploring why James Cook is an important person in local and global history.

1MG have had a wonderful Reading Emersion session this week. They read the story ‘Planet Pandora’ and created their own rocket to blast to the moon. They even experimented with different liquids and made their own glowing potions. They then answered some comprehension questions from the text that they had read to demonstrate their understanding.

1TS have thoroughly enjoyed their PE sessions this week. They have been developing their ball skills using their feet during their outdoor session. They are getting super confident at stopping the ball with their foot and passing it to their partner. During their indoor session, the children have been doing gymnastics focusing on balancing and moving on their big and small body parts. Once the children were confident, they progressed to moving and balancing on the apparatus!
