KS1 Class News

Welcome back KS1! We have had a great start to Summer 2 and have loved welcoming our children back into theirr school routines. As always, we have been super busy!

In English, 1TS have been practising our skills of matching uppercase letters and lowercase letters correctly to support us when we are applying them in our sentences. We have loved learning about Pirates this week as part of our new topic! We explored some new vocabulary linked to Pirates and used our phonics skills to spell these words independently.

In Maths, 1TS have been consolidating our learning on place value and have progressed to using numbers to 100. We can partition numbers to 100 into tens and ones and we can find one more or one less than any number to 100. We have also been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s in preparation for our new learning of multiplication and division.

1MG and 1AC have been enjoying lots of reading immersion this week, exploring mythical creatures. In our writing we have discussed our dreams, goals and desired future careers – it was so interesting!

In Maths, 1MG and 1AC have been completing fractions. We have been finding a half and a quarter of different shapes and numbers.

KS1 School Visit!

KS1 have enjoyed there visit to Hartlepool Marina this week. We loved going aboard the ship and exploring each deck. We listened carefully to learn about the purposed of different sections of the ship. We were lucky enough to explore and handle some historical artifacts and learn the purpose of each one – we enjoyed trying to guess what we thought each one was for. We spent time in the museum and even got the chance to climb aboard the fishing boat! We had time in the ‘fighting ships’ where we listened to short stories about what life was like on the ship for the different crew members.

We thoroughly enjoyed the play park where we could role play being sailors ourselves! We all had lunch together and discussed what out favourite part of the trip was!
