Another brilliant week in school!
In writing this week we have begun our Place Value, Punctuation and Grammar sessions. We have consolidated our understanding of nouns and explored different ways of categorising them based on criteria. The noun groups we have learnt about are; common nouns, proper nouns, collective nouns, partitive nouns and abstract nouns. We will continue to embed this knowledge by completing our English homework 🙂
On Thursday, we went on a journey to India during our first immersive reading session. We enjoyed exploring a series of videos, music and photographs of India, its cities and its slums before reading a short extract of the story THIRST. In summary, the beginning of the story highlights the issue of water poverty within the slums of Mumbai and we re-enacted some scenes through freeze frame role play. Following this, we went outside to experience what it might be like collecting and carrying water buckets and then we had a mini challenge of preserving water by transferring it without spillage. It was a super engaging experience for us all!
In Maths we have continued with our Place Value learning. This week we have focussed upon numbers to 1,000,000. Writing these as numbers, words and also identifying 10/100/1000/10,000 more or less than a given number. Next week we will be introducing our KIRF’s (Key Instant Recall Facts) and taking our first quiz. Take a look at this information leaflet to find out more!
Our Topic sessions this week have explored the Geography of our world. We have recapped our prior learning of the world’s continents by creating a digital map using the laptops. We then followed that up by using an atlas to find some countries which belong to each continent. Our week finished by exploring the work of local artist, Julie Foster Walker. You can see some images of her work HERE.
