Weekly news 9.10.26

Reception have had a really busy week this week. The children were really having a good practice strengthening their fingers. hands and wrists through pre-writing activities in the morning, pre-writing with Mozart music and loving the dough disco, learning new techniques and taking their family fingers for a disco. All this information is in the Reception parent support page.

What else has been happening this week?

Oracy – We looked at a playground scene and talked about what was happening in the picture? What activities could the children see and talk about things that happen on the playground. What games do you like to play with your friends?

Understanding the World – We had a RE lesson and we talked about the meaning of ‘Caring’ – Who cares for you? How do you care for someone?

Maths – We have continued to build on their subitising skills, building on instant recognition .They looked at the arrangements of 3 and 4 and worked in pairs, making 3 and 4 with counters and cubes.

Talk through stories – We enjoyed listening to the story ‘I am Nefertiti’ by Annemarie Anang. A story about a little girl who builds her confidence by playing the drums, but her music teacher knocks her confidence by struggling to say her name correctly. We learned about how the characters were feeling, what the problem was in the story and joined in with the story following phrases and showing expression.

PE – In PE this week, the children continued to walk in a different ways linking to a coloured cone, moving through gates and changing the movement – walking forwards (green), backwards (yellow), faster, (blue), both hands and feet (orange). They also had hot spots to move to – jogging on the spot, or jumping on the spot.

Understanding The World – We talked about how we cared for each other. Work set in our floor book.
