Autumn 1 – Movement

This week I had the privilege to work with other Nursery and Early Years colleagues to complete an Early Years Motor Screening qualification. The research behind the screening by Dr Vanessa King, is really interesting and I thought I would share it with you so we can work together to get one step ahead!

We know babies are born with primitive reflexes to help with survival and early development. But as your baby grows these reflexes are integrated and the baby can then move on to more controlled movements. If those reflexes aren’t integrated, it can have an effect on their development. So the more movement they get, the more control they get.

Encourage lots of movement, it can help physical development, learning and concentration!
