Nursery 25.09.26

What a very busy week again in Nursery. This week we have been using our senses to explore. We are looking at different toys, we are listening to music, we are smelling different smells, we are tasting different tastes and we are playing with different textured toys. We have been naming those parts of our bodies that we use too! We encourage the children to repeat some of our new words by adults saying “My turn…eyes, your turn…” and wait for your child to say “eyes.” We use “My Turn, Your Turn” in our systematic phonics programme, Read Write Inc, so it helps to start using this vocabulary in Nursery.

We continue with our language screening assessment, Draw a Person assessment (take a look on the art wall) and as part of our TLLT assessments, I continue to complete the baseline assessments within 2 weeks of children beginning Nursery. We are very busy!

We also welcomed some new children into Nursery this week. Thank you for your support at home in helping them settle so well. Please remind them they will have a lovely time in Nursery and you come back to pick them up! Share the Widgit timetable with them so they know what to expect. Three hours can seem like a long time when you’re only 3!

We continue to work on the following skills.. listening and following simple instructions, asking for help if they need it, taking turns and remembering to ‘Choose it, Use it, Put it Away!’ Well done Nursery, you are trying hard to live out our Newham Bridge Values – Inspire, Enjoy, Achieve!

Mark-making, filling, joining, sorting animals, building train tracks, rolling and cutting. Lots of language rich activities in Nursery.

Looking for magnetic objects, drawing circles and faces and creating!

We have been practising ball skills and throwing and catching a beanbag. Try to encourage your child to play with a ball or beanbag at home too.

Movement is so important in your child’s early years. Lack of movement can have a critical impact on physical development, emotional well being, learning and attention. (See the Nursery support page for more information)

Phonics and Oracy

We continue to practise these Nursery Rhymes in phonics. Please practise them at home too and the ones in our Nursery leaflet.

Our story this week…
