KS1 Class News 27.9.24

We have had another wonderful week in KS1.

In Maths, 1TS have been counting forwards and backwards and progressing onto identifying one more and one less.

1MG and 1AC have been comparing numbers using inequality symbols. Counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s. We have now completed our place value block.

In English, 1TS have been exploring the book ‘The Leaf Thief’ and have been writing dictated sentences with the help of their phonic knowledge.

1MG and 1AC have been exploring irregular action verbs and verb phrases. We learnt this practically first with a game of action verb snap. This helped the children to understand what an irregular action verb is and what it looks like in a sentence. We then progressed to finding irregular action verbs and verb phrases in a sentence.

1MG and 1AC have thoroughly enjoyed our Reading Emersion session this week. We explored the text ‘Who’ from the BFG. We closed our eyes and listened to some music and explored how the music made us feel and then tried to guess what was going to happen in the story by looking at one picture – the children loved it!

In Topic, 1TS have focused on compass points to identify North, East, South and West. We then progressed onto playing games were we had to follow directions.

1MG and 1AC have also been exploring compass points and directions. We had to follow the directions to familiar places to the children from our school, such as The Duck Pond and The Avenue of Trees. We have also practised using oil pastels to color our Autumnal leaves which were inspired by artist Georgia O’Keeffe.

Notices

Your child should have received a letter about our Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRF) in Maths. KIRFs are facts your child needs to be able to recall with speed and accuracy. Each letter will explain the objective your child is working on for the half term; it will give you an example of a task your child will do in school, vocabulary and home learning ideas. We suggest working with your child little and often at home to help them recall these facts to support mental maths work in school.
