Autumn 1 Week 7

Week 7 – completed!

We have had an incredible week! We really got stuck into our topic – A Changing Town – by visiting the nearby Acklam Hall. We were very privileged to have a guided tour around this spectacular mansion house (which was the home of the Hustler family) built in the 1600s. We enjoyed sketching the hall as part of our art work and we were very lucky to receive a lovely gift from the hall, as we left. Our afternoon got even better, as we welcomed a visitor from English Heritage to come in and talk to us about his job as a historian and all of the different historical sites that are important to him. Mr Marshall told us all about Middlesbrough in the past and how, thanks to the iron and steel industry the town has grown, developed and modernised over time.

During our reading sessions we have immersed ourselves in the eerie legend of The Headless Horseman. We found out all about the legend and how various stories travelled around the world in order to make up the most famous version ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’. We read a newspaper report about the mysterious apparition disrupting the festivities at a country fair and how they described this ghoul as billowing with smoke as he galloped past on his jet black horse.

In Maths this week, we continued our work on multiplication and division. We have continued to focus closely on Multiples, Factors and Prime Numbers, as well as Square and Cube numbers and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 If you would like a little more help with this, then check out the homework page this week. You can always find out more on the BBC bitesize website HERE.

Our artwork this week, challenged us to use collage techniques in order to represent the changes in Middlesbrough over time. We used a wide range of materials to show the change of landscape from rural to industrial to urban. We’ll post some of the finished work on here next week.

The final week (22nd and 23rd) will be parent consultations. We look forward to seeing you then.
