Autumn 2 – Week 5

An extremely busy but productive week in Year 5 this week!

In Topic we have learnt more about Henry VIII and discussed the debate over whether he is a revolutionary or ruthless ruler. We also explored his relationship with the Church and how he contributed to the English Revolution.

Writing this week consisted of delving deep into the History of the Plague. We have explored a text called Pestilence ready to write our own descriptive piece of writing. As a class, we have practised different sentence types to ensure our writing is interesting and have jotted down examples an ideas ready to use in our planning sheet.

Maths has seen us finish our block of learning on Fractions this week. We have worked extremely hard remembering all the methods needed when comparing, converting, adding and subtracting fractions.

In Guided Reading, we have explored a different text in the form of a letter. James, a young boy, wrote to a friend about his family fleeing London from the plague. The children were fully immersed in role play and we ended our session by making our very own plague doctor masks – they were creepy! The following session we focussed on our inference skills by answering questions using A.P.E. – we shared answers and learnt lots of new aspects to improve our work.
