Autumn 2 – Week 1

Welcome back!!!

After a well earned rest, we have arrived back at school with great attitudes to learning this week. Most of us have arrived on time and have improved our attendance – please keep this up Year 5, our money pots are growing 😀

In English this week, we have begun our writing sequence and have explored Non Chronological reports on Space – linked to our Science! By exploring features of this genre of writing and identifying technical and formal vocabulary, we are preparing ourselves to write our own Non Chronological reports in the coming weeks. During our Science lessons and additional English lessons next week, we will be researching some amazing facts about our solar system.

Our Guided Reading has transported us to alternate realities this week as we have explored the text, The War of the Worlds. We have focussed a lot on echo and choral reading whilst developing our skills of summarizing and prediction.

In Maths, we have started our unit on Fractions, in particular equivalent fractions and the relationships they have. We have had to apply our knowledge of multiplication and division throughout the unit so far so any extra sessions on TTRS will be extremely helpful!

Remember next week on Tuesday 12th November we will be on our school trip to Danby! Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the outdoors (moors) and bring a waterproof coat. A packed lunch and drink will be required unless you have requested a pre packed school lunch. We will leave promptly at 9:00am.
