KS1 Weekly News 11.10.24

In Maths, 1TS have been comparing numbers. We have put numbers in order from greatest to smallest and smallest to greatest. We then explored number lines. We can now correctly place missing numbers on the number line and we know that not all number lines will start from 0. We have been practising the skill of ‘counting on’ from any number on the number line.

1MG and 1AC have extended their knowledge of number bonds to 10 by finding related facts to 100. We have began bridging to the next 10 which has been challenging, but we have used taught strategies and practical equipment to support us.

In English, 1TS have been reading ‘Stick Man’ and we have loved it – a firm favourite! We explored the different ways Stick Man was used in the story. We then used our imagination to decide what we would use Stick Man for – we illustrated our ideas and labeled them. We then written some sentences from the pictures in the story. Due to our fantastic knowledge and understanding of the story we were able to compose our own sentences.

In English, 1MG and 1AC have continued to work hard on identifying subjects and verbs and have progressed to putting them into a single clause sentence. We are so impressed!

In Topic, 1TS have been looking at climates. We looked at the world map and labeled where the North Pole, South Pole and the equator is. We then looked at what type of climate different parts of the world would have due to their location in relation to the equator. We then colour coded our own world map to show our understanding.

1MG and 1AC have collected data from a weather record to create their own weather report! We then use our computing skills on Purple Mash to create a digital weather report – this was so fun!

Notices

Your child has received a letter all about Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRF) in Maths. KIRFs are facts your child needs to be able to recall with speed and accuracy. Each letter will explain the objective your child is working on for the half term; it will give you an example of a task your child will do in school, vocabulary and home learning ideas. We suggest working with your child little and often at home to help them recall these facts to support mental maths work in school.
