In Computing, the children in Year 1 and 2 were beginning to get a better understanding of the laptops we use in school. They were practicing how to use them safely and carefully.
The children in Year 1 began to use their own usernames and passwords to access the apps and software on the computer. We talked about the importance of keeping usernames and passwords private, and how we should behave when we’re using different technology.
In year two the children began to look at the range of different applications we can use on the laptops and how they might be used in different lessons. We also learned some cheeky keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures to perform different simple tasks.
In RE this week the children have been finding out more about the Jewish celebration of Shabbat. We shared and retold the story of a boy who had to celebrate Shabbat all alone in the desert. Fortunately he had an animal to protect him…Find out more here
The children in 1DJ have created a superb gallery of pictures and collages using only the materials they found whilst on our woodland walk.
The challenge was to create a character we might see wandering through a magical woodland. As you can see their imaginations ran wild and some of the creations are magnificent. We hope you enjoy them. Let us know your favourites by leaving a comment at the end of the post.

For Science week, 1ZHi have been investigating colour, the same as 1DJ. We did some investigations about colour, linking with our topic and science work (Brazil and Animals and plants). Firstly, we listened to a story called ‘How the parrot got his coloured feathers’ and looked closely at the colours seen on a Mawcaw parrot. We discussed why parrots and other animals in the Amazon forest are so colourful and have strange markings, this is because they are warning off predators or hiding away from them.
We then looked at the three primary colours on the parrot; red, yellow and blue, but we wanted to investigate how we could make the other colours; orange, green and purple (secondary colours). Some of us investigated further colours, the tertiary colours.
We planned what we were going to do and what we needed, made some predictions, then we investigated and mixed the colours. After the investigation we discussed our results and ways of improving the investigation.
We also did another experiment, working with food colouring and paper towels, watching the food colouring being absorbed and predicting what colours would appear in the middle pots.
Linking with the Animals and plants, we had recently been looking at the different parts of a plant and what a plant needs to help it grow. We put some white flowers into pots of food colouring and for two days watched the petals change colour. This helped us understand the importance of the roots and stem of a plant.
It has been a great start to maths week in 1CD, 1ZH and 1DJ. We have already had fun with maths art and an awesome maths trail around school!
Later this week we will be having a grand maths quiz – who will be dynamite with their digits and perfection with their patterns? We will have to wait and see.
We are all looking forward to welcoming our parents and family into school on Thursday afternoon (2:30pm) to come and see some marvellous maths in action!
