On Thursday 11th December and Friday 12th December the children in the EYFS performed ‘Wriggly Nativity’ by Nikki Davis. Here we are, ready to go into our second performance, all of us very excited. The children danced and sang beautifully. They were fantastic and I’m sure you were all very proud of them! You can buy a DVD from school.
In Reception, we have continued our ‘Healthy Eating’ theme. We have a role play Doctor’s surgery. The Nurse, Steph, came to talk to us about looking after our teeth. She brought us some teeth brushing charts which we will receive on Monday. If you fill this chart in at home Steph will give you a certificate!
This week we also made healthy banana and strawberry smoothies. We played maths games based upon our focus story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and created a wall display all about her- look out in the Key Stage 1 corridor for our display. Outside, we investigated how far balls travel down a ramp and counted ‘wobbly teeth’ on the outside board.
This week we have been looking at the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. We decided to try some of the different fruits in the story to see if we liked them. Some of us really liked them….others not so much! It was great fun trying the fruits and some of us pulled some very funny faces when we tried them!
As mentioned in our last post, we have turned our outside construction area into a Building Site so we can pretend to make new buildings to match the building work going on in school. We saw a huge crane the other day, which was very exciting! We hope it comes back so we can go and see it.
Lastly, on Friday it was Children in Need day. Thank you to everyone who donated £1 🙂 We had great fun dressing up as local heroes and acting out our important roles. Check out our pictures of all the fantastic Nurses, Doctors, Teachers, Firefighters, Vets, Beauticians and many more that come through our door on Friday 🙂
Enjoy. Reception Team.
Today was Remembrance Day and we listened to the chimes of Big Ben at 11 o’clock before observing 2 minutes silence. We also made poppies, lots and lots of poppies. With all of the building work taking place around school we have also become ‘building crazy’ with building materials, diggers and dressing up both inside the classroom and outside. Have a look at our photos of us making diva pots for Divali. Our story this week is ‘Handa’s Surprise’. You can see the children acting out the story in our slideshow. We continue to welcome parents to our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions on a Wednesday. There are no spaces tomorrow but we do have spaces next week, come into the corridor and sign up, we’d love to see you.
This week we explored kites and streamers in the wind, mixed colours to make ‘rainbow rice’ and enjoyed acting out the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have also been counting forwards and backwards; one of the songs we have been singing is playing during the slideshow.
On Thursday 5th June, the Reception children went to Danby Forest. We hunted for the characters in the forest and made a Gruffalo potion. After that we played in the playground, despite the rain!
Reception had lots of fun when the Fire Brigade visited school. The Firemen spoke to us about how to keep safe. We also all enjoyed using the fire hose!
On Friday 9th of May, Reception class went to see ‘The Gruffalo’ at Billingham Forum. We thought it was fantastic! The children were very well behaved and a credit to our School.
“I liked the snake and the mouse and the owl and the Gruffalo the best, I liked it all!”
Thank you to our parent helpers for coming with us.
At the end of last term Reception held a cake sale to raise some money to put towards a trip to see ‘The Gruffalo’ at Billingham Forum.
Thank you to everybody who supported our cake sale. We raised a staggering £103.77!!
Thank you also to Nana Berni who baked us a wonderful ‘Gruffalo’ cake, which we raffled at our cake sale. The cake was won by Theo and he said it was delicious!
