The Reception children have been very busy over the last few weeks. We’ve been learning about keeping healthy. We made healthy fruit kebabs, did lots of exercise and made posters to promote 5 ways of staying healthy!
EYFS have recently been hatching chickens.
Today the Reception children dressed up as teachers and the teachers dressed up as children (except for one Pudsey Bear!!!!). We all looked very smart in our teacher uniform and had a great day raising money for Children in Need.
Thank you for your donations!
We had a wonderful day at the farm last week; we held animals, fed lambs, brushed a pig (yes really!), ate ice -cream produced at the farm and rode on the barrel train. The children behaved beautifully, we were all very proud of them.
Exciting news about our caterpillars – they have spun cocoons and we should have butterflies in approximately 2 weeks! We are all very excited. Please look in your child’s home school learning journey book for a photo.
Now for photos of the farm.
One very sunny day we went outside to explore shadows. We all tried to come up with an interesting shape to see if we could make an interesting shadow. As you can see, we had a lot of fun making and exploring shadows. We are learning that it is our body blocking the light source (in this case the sun) that makes the shadow.
Our schools third annual Spelling Bee competition took place this afternoon, with a group of 6 Year 6 students pitting their spelling knowledge against 6 members of staff.
The teachers started the competition in the worst possible way, incorrectly spelling their first word, gifting the children an opportunity to take advantage, which they took.
The students proved to be tough competitors for our teachers only dropping one word out of 18. The teachers on the other hand incorrectly spelt 4.
The competition ended Teachers 14, Children 17. Another win for the children to make it 3 years in a row.
Our topic last term was ‘We are explorers’. At the start of tis term we are still ‘exploring’ space, because the children have been so enthusiastic. After reading ‘Alien Tea on Planet Zum-Zee’ by Tony Mitton &Guy Parker-Rees, we decided to have our own alien tea party. The children in Reception wrote to the children in the Afternoon Nursery and invited them to our tea party. We were delighted when the Nursery accepted. We then started preparing for our party. The children wrote lists of the food that they wanted – we couldn’t manage burgers, chips and pizza, but we did make biscuits and alien jelly. The children were particularly interested in the changes that happened to the jelly. The day of the party arrived and we put on our alien hats and went to have some fun in the sun, we played some games and then sat down to our alien tea. Have a look how much fun we had!
We had a very busy and exciting term last term, full of interesting events and learning. Here is a short video of some of the things we did towards the end of term. Enjoy 🙂
Check out some of the fun things we have done this term in Reception!
With more to come soon 🙂
